The more you know about your project, the contractor you’ll be working with, and the challenges and pitfalls that lie ahead, the better your chances of having a successful experience. Here are some good online sources where you can get much of this information:
CALBO is another important group for you to check with before starting your project. They are code enforcement professionals who help to ensure the safety of our communities, especially as it relates to the building industry. This site can give you a better understanding of some of the rules and regulations you might be working under as your project proceeds.
Remodeler’s Advantage is a great resource for staying on top of the current building methods, best practices and techniques. Here you’ll find out why we are so adamant about following certain procedures as we execute your project. Decades of experience by thousands of contractors have resulted in a treasure chest of advice, recommendations and protocols.
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry is another great site for better understanding the sometimes challenging topics of budgeting, finding the best contractor and scheduling your project.
The National Kitchen and Bath Association focuses on (as you might expect) the current best practices for building or remodeling kitchens and baths. We often recommend this to our MKU Construction clients who are planning either a kitchen or bath project (or both). Lots of great ideas plus a lot of very practical advice, as well.
Build It Green is a good resource for any home owner seeking to improve the energy efficiency of their current or future home. It’s actually a non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy- and resource-efficient building practices in California.
